Our Projects
Marine Turtle Nesting Surveys – East Caicos
In collaboration with the Marine Conservation Society, Gaia conducted seasonal sea turtle monitoring in East Caicos. This work supported data collection for conservation planning and informed policy dialogues on coastal protection.
East Caicos Wilderness Project Vision
Gaia is currently leading the development of the East Caicos Wilderness Project’s Vision. This initiative brings together stakeholders from across the Turks and Caicos Islands to co-create an island-wide plan grounded in biodiversity protection, cultural heritage preservation, and community resilience.

Explore some common questions and answers related to environmental impact, sustainability, and our consultancy services.
What permits or approvals does my project need?
This depends on the project type, location, and scale. Generally, projects in sensitive areas require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and subsequent approval from the Department of Environment/Planning. Other permits may include water abstraction, waste management, or coastal zone approvals. We can review your project scope and identify all required permits at the outset to avoid delays.
How long will the environmental assessment process take?
Timelines vary by project complexity. A small-scale assessment might take 4–6 weeks, while a full EIA with baseline surveys across multiple seasons could take 3–6 months. Early planning is key — if we begin baseline data collection now, we can streamline approvals and reduce risks of regulatory delays.
What are the main environmental risks for my project?
Risks typically include impacts on sensitive habitats, species of conservation concern, water resources, and community livelihoods. For example, coastal projects may face risks of erosion, mangrove loss, or impacts on fisheries. Part of our role is to identify these risks early and design mitigation measures that reduce both environmental impact and reputational risk for the developer.
